RoveIQ Interactive Kiosk Integral to Miami Design District's Technological Future

More than twenty years ago, Miami native Craig Robins recognized the potential of the Miami Design District and began acquiring buildings in the neighborhood. His goal was to reinvigorate a forgotten part of Miami, transforming it into a unique creative community through exceptional architecture, design, and experiences.

Today, the District is a vibrant community where residents and visitors enjoy premium shopping, chef-driven restaurants, world-class museums, and abundant outdoor space.

To keep visitors informed about the district’s many shops, restaurants, events, and museums, Miami Design District partnered with RoveIQ to deploy interactive digital directories. Dual-sided 55" touchscreen kiosks provide 3D wayfinding to local places of interest, highlight event schedules, advertising, and feature works of local artists.

Creating an Interactive and Responsive Environment With Digital Wayfinding Software

The Miami Design District is designed as an interactive destination, where visitors can shop flagship stores, admire monumental sculptures and murals, and explore museums and art galleries. The digital directories reflect the district’s dynamism through video, content loops, and featured artwork.

The kiosks were deployed through a collaboration between Miami Design District and RoveIQ.

RoveIQ, known for high-performance interactive digital signage and digital wayfinding, provided hardware built for Miami’s intense sunlight and heat. The 3500-nit kiosks include a 10-year performance guarantee suited for long-term outdoor reliability.

RoveIQ's content management platform powers the interactive on-screen experience. RoveIQ's products enables district management to easily update content, analyze consumer behavior, and drive traffic to tenants with real-time content, 3D wayfinding, and promotions.

Touch Screen Kiosk: Ten Thousand Interactions in Sixty Days

Proper placement was key to success. The digital directories were strategically located at the head and tail of major pedestrian walkways - not against walls but directly along natural walking paths.

As proof of their effectiveness, the kiosks recorded:

  • 10,000+ interactions in the first 60 days

  • 2,800+ selfies taken by visitors

Zinnia Maisonet, Assistant General Manager of Miami Design District, stated:

“The solution has been an integral part of the Miami Design District’s movement into the technological future. With RoveiQ’s customer-branded mapping and user-friendly engagement, the digital directories have been an advantage to the interactive environment.”

RoveIQ Directory Software Drives Desired Outcome

RoveIQ's platform is an all-in-one web-based mapping, content management, and analytics platform for consumer engagement. At Miami Design District, the experience includes five primary interfaces:

1. Ad Loop

  • Media buyers purchase screen time to monetize the directories.

  • Additional digital inventory highlights local artwork, tenant promotions, and events.

2. Home Screen

  • Central hub for navigation to shops, restaurants, amenities, parking, schedules, selfies, and search.

3. Location Finder

  • Smart filters provide detailed information about places of interest and highlight where they are within the district.

4. Interactive Wayfinding Map

  • A 3D map displays the user’s current location and provides walking directions.

  • 3-axis tilt and zoom controls create a mobile-like, intuitive experience.

5. Selfie Feature

  • The district is known as a popular photo spot.

  • The selfie camera allows visitors to capture fun photos alone or with family and friends

The digital directories support customizable colors, iconography, and real-time tenant updates. They provide a responsive, intuitive experience similar to a smartphone.

Miami Design District has achieved its goal of making digital directories a core part of its interactive neighborhood and made plans to expand the system with additional digital directories.
